October is BOO-kish!

October is the most BOO-kish month. Look at all the upcoming events for October in the book world...

October is Dewey's 24-Hour Read-a-thon!

Dewey's 24-Hour Read-a-thon is coming next weekend!
Have you signed up?

It's not too late.
Contests and special fun events every hour.
Lots of opportunities to meet other bloggers.
And time to read those books you've been wanting to read!

I'll be hosting a shift once again this read-a-thon,
so I hope to see you there!

Don't think you have time to read for twenty-four hours?

October is Cybils Nomination Time!
Do you have favorite children's and young adult books published this year?
You can nominate your favorites for the Cybils Award!

From now until October 15, you can nominate your favorite children's
and young adult books published this year in these categories:

I've already nominated some of my favorites.

October is the Scholastic Book Fair!

Look what arrived in the mail today!
Yes, it's a Cleopatra costume.
I'll be Cleopatra during our library book fair in October.
Watch for photos to come!

October is the Texas Book Festival!
The Texas Book Festival is held October 26-27
on the grounds of and inside the Texas State Capitol.

I'm especially looking forward to hearing authors Mac Barnett,
Jon Scieszka, Bob Shea, Sherman Alexie, Gordon Korman,
Katherine Applegate, Jonathan Lethem, and Bob Staake this year.

I'll be serving as an author escort again this year.
Last year, I had the privilege to escort

And, once again, I'll be bookcrossing lots and lots of great books
all around and inside the capitol building.

Hope to see you there!

  1. What a fantastic month you have planned! I can't wait to see you as Cleopatra. I'm thinking about the readathon this time round (if plans come though and I become childless that day, if not it may have to be shelved...). Does it start at any particular time?

  2. I hope you can join in, Louise! It looks like it will start for you in Australia somewhere around 10 pm or 11 pm on Saturday, October 12. Here's a link for the start times around the world.

  3. October is ... busy! I love all the online "boo-kish" events that take place in October, and now I see there's plenty of offline stuff happening too.

  5. We almost missed the Readathon. I have a family reunion next weekend, too, but my husband has to do a rock presentation here that weekend...so, can't go to the reunion.

  6. Sounds simply wonderful!

I had so hoped to participate in the read-athon (I have missed the last three...) but we are going to Des Moines to a huge book fair and I will not be back in town until Saturday night. Hopefully I will participate in the spring event.

  7. Yeah, I'd really like to participate in next weekend's readathon, but I'm away at my wife's 25th high school reunion. So there's that. :) Otherwise, I would be.

  8. Why in the world would someone schedule a high school reunion the same weekend as the readathon?! Lol.

  9. Molly, your excuse is acceptable. Book fair = readathon. Both are valuable activities.
